Yahoo Is Back in College Fantasy Football: How to Win Your Yahoo League in 2026

Yahoo Is Back

For the first time in years, Yahoo is running a season-long college fantasy football game, and the format has real wrinkles you need to draft around.

Yahoo opened signups with drafts beginning August 3 and scoring starting September 3. It plays like their NFL product: head-to-head weekly matchups, a snake or auction draft, trades and a waiver wire. But three things make Yahoo college fantasy its own animal, and each one changes how you should build a roster.

68
Power Four teams in the Yahoo player pool

Yahoo limited the 2026 game to the Power Four conferences plus Notre Dame and left out roughly 70 Group of Five schools. That is the single biggest thing separating a Yahoo draft board from ours, and the source of the loudest fan complaint.

That last point matters for value. Some of the best sleepers in college fantasy this year play at Group of Five schools, and they simply are not draftable in Yahoo. Your edge in a Yahoo league comes from nailing the Power Four player pool and exploiting the new roster rules, not from digging up a Sun Belt receiver.

Yahoo Scoring vs. Sleeper and ESPN

Yahoo's scoring closely mirrors its NFL game, which lands near a Half-PPR baseline. If you have played on Sleeper or ESPN, most of your instincts carry over, with a few differences worth memorizing before you draft.

The headline: Yahoo runs Half-PPR, so target volume matters but not as much as in full PPR. Our tools default to Half-PPR scoring already, which means our rankings and mock draft simulator line up with a Yahoo board out of the box. If you play full PPR elsewhere, bump pass-catching backs and slot receivers up a tier.

The New Team Offense Slot

The biggest change is a roster spot Yahoo has never had before: Team Offense. Instead of a kicker, you start a team's entire offense. It scores for touchdowns, total yards, field goals and wins, and it loses points for turnovers and losses. There is no traditional kicker and no separate team defense.

Stream the Team Offense slot every week. It is the easiest edge in a Yahoo league.

Draft-day rule No. 1

Because Team Offense punishes turnovers and rewards blowouts, you do not draft one and hold it. You stream it: each week, start the offense with the highest implied team total and the softest matchup. A 45-point favorite at home is worth more than a coin-flip game between two better offenses. Here is a typical Yahoo starting roster:

WR
3 starters
TE

W/R/T FLEX

18-man rosters mean a deeper bench and a live waiver wire all season. Draft upside on your bench, because you have the room to stash breakout candidates and stream the Team Offense slot every single week.

5 Draft-Day Rules for Yahoo 2026

1
Draft the Power Four cliff early
Yahoo 2026
With Group of Five names off the board, the running back cliff is even steeper. Secure a top Power Four back in the first two rounds.
2
Do not draft a Team Offense early
Yahoo 2026
It is a streaming slot. Spend that pick on a bench player with upside and grab your first offense off the wire in Week 1.
3
Treat it like Half-PPR
Yahoo 2026
Volume matters, but do not overpay for pure possession receivers the way you would in full PPR. Balanced backs and target hogs win.
4
Use the deeper bench for lottery tickets
Yahoo 2026
With 18 spots, your last five picks should be pure upside: freshmen with a path to snaps, backup backs one injury from a workload.
5
Practice the Power-Four-only board
Yahoo 2026
The player pool is different from every other site. Run a mock or two on a Power-Four board so the tiers feel natural before it counts.

Week 1 Slate at a Glance

Yahoo scoring starts September 3. These are the marquee Week 1 matchups with the highest fantasy appeal, ranked by Vegas total. High totals mean more touchdowns to go around, which is exactly what you want from your first Team Offense stream and your early-season starters.

Practice Before Your Draft

Yahoo drafts open August 3. The players who win Yahoo leagues are the ones who have already seen the board a few times and know how the tiers fall. Because our mock simulator defaults to Yahoo-style Half-PPR scoring, it is the closest thing to a live rehearsal you can get before your real draft.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Yahoo college fantasy football back for 2026?+
Yes. Yahoo relaunched a season-long college fantasy football game for 2026, with drafts opening August 3 and scoring beginning September 3. It features head-to-head matchups, 18-man rosters and a new Team Offense roster slot.
What scoring does Yahoo college fantasy use?+
Yahoo's scoring mirrors its NFL game and lands near Half-PPR (0.5 points per reception) with 4-point passing touchdowns. Our mock draft simulator and rankings default to Half-PPR, so they match a Yahoo board.
What is the Team Offense slot in Yahoo college fantasy?+
It is a new roster spot that replaces the kicker. You start a team's offense, which scores for touchdowns, total yards, field goals and wins, and loses points for turnovers and losses. The best strategy is to stream it each week based on the highest implied team total.
Does Yahoo college fantasy include Group of Five teams?+
No. The 2026 Yahoo game is limited to the Power Four conferences plus Notre Dame, about 68 teams, and excludes Group of Five schools. That was the most common fan complaint at launch. For leagues on Sleeper, ESPN or Fantrax, the full FBS pool is in play.
How do I practice for a Yahoo draft?+
Run a mock draft on our simulator. It uses Half-PPR scoring by default, so it mirrors Yahoo, and you can rehearse a Power-Four-heavy board before your real draft on August 3.
