2026 Texas Tech Football Depth Chart

Texas Tech enters 2026 riding unprecedented momentum after head coach Joey McGuire led the Red Raiders to their first Big 12 Conference championship in program history in 2025. The quarterback room underwent a seismic shift as Behren Morton—who threw for over 3,100 yards and earned an NFL Combine invitation—departed for the professional ranks. McGuire responded with arguably the biggest portal acquisition in the Big 12, landing Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby in a deal reportedly worth $6 million in NIL valuations. Sorsby totaled more than 3,200 yards of total offense and 36 touchdowns in 2025 at Cincinnati, drawing comparisons to Cal’s Fernando Mendoza as a high-floor, dual-threat system quarterback. Will Hammond and Mitch Griffis provide backup depth behind what projects as one of the conference’s most talented signal-callers.

The skill positions feature a blend of returning production and elite young talent. At running back, Quinten Joyner steps into the lead role after Tahj Brooks departed for the NFL, with Cameron Dickey and J’Koby Williams providing depth in what should be a productive committee. The wide receiver room is headlined by Micah Hudson, a former five-star recruit entering his junior season whom Sorsby has already called ‘phenomenal’ during early spring workouts. Caleb Douglas returns as a reliable veteran target, while Coy Eakin and Preztynn Harrison add size and experience to the rotation. Kelby Valsin and Reggie Virgil round out a deep receiving corps. The tight end room features Trey Jackson and Terrance Carter Jr. as the primary options. Upton Bellenfant handles place-kicking duties.

For dynasty purposes, Texas Tech is a top-tier Big 12 fantasy offense entering 2026. Brendan Sorsby’s combination of rushing ability and arm talent in McGuire’s aggressive scheme makes him a QB1 candidate in deeper formats, especially given the weapons around him. Micah Hudson is a potential first-round NFL Draft pick and should be rostered in all dynasty leagues—his ceiling as a junior with elite athleticism and a proven passer is enormous. Quinten Joyner could emerge as a fantasy-relevant running back given the scheme’s propensity for explosive plays, though the committee approach caps his ceiling. Caleb Douglas offers safe PPR value as a reliable secondary target. This is a program on the rise with multiple fantasy-relevant assets at every skill position.
