2022 Top 50 Wide Receivers of College Fantasy Football

College football is losing some legit talent to the NFL at the wide receiver position. If you just consider Alabama and Ohio State, four 1st-2nd round WR’s gone. As players leave, that opens up room for new college fantasy football blood in elite offenses. We’re ranking the best wide receivers in the 2022 college fantasy football season.

Stock Up

Myles Price – The Texas Tech WR has a shot to be a huge sleeper in fantasy drafts, but he won’t be a sleeper in the CFBDynasty rankings. The new Red Raiders’ OC is coming over from Western Kentucky, where they lead the NCAA with 5,967 passing yards on 686 pass attempts.

Jermaine Burton – Alabama lost its clear top two WR’s to the NFL draft and Saban called out the backups for fumbling an opportunity. Burton transferred in from Georgia and he’s been a great receiver when healthy. It also helps that he’ll be the beneficiary of elite-elite QB play with Bryce Young.

Marvin Harrison Jr – The college fantasy football community could completely over-projecting Harrison Jr.’s 3-TD bowl game performance – his only notable game. With the elite WR’s he’ll be competing against for playing time, we could all be wrong. In many mock drafts, he’s been a top 10 WR – but someone has to be WR2 in likely the best offense in college football. Harrison Jr. could be in for a breakout 2022.

Stock Down

Gary Bryant Jr – Bryant Jr. came on STRONG after leading WR Drake London missed games with an injury. Typically, that signals “next man up” and a clear fantasy boost. However, USC is loaded at the position and it’s a wildcard to see who takes the WR1  and if that production is worthy of high fantasy production.

Kayshon Boutte – We’re not concerned about the QB battle between Myles Brennan and incoming Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels. Boutte is the clear #1 and an elite talent with 1st round NFL potential. He’ll need to overcome multiple offseason surgeries and will force missed spring at the least. While he’s still a 1st-2nd round selection in fantasy drafts, he’s not the clear WR1 he could have been.

Tiers, Draft Strategy, and Expectations

Deciding when to draft the right quarterback for the right value is different in every draft. It’s the most important position, however the actual draft will really determine the value. For example, if running backs go really early, you’ll need to spot the tiers and select the player/position that will provide your team with the best competitive advantage.

So how do we determine value? We evaluate the “fantasy points per game earned” as the main metric for determining fantasy value within your draft.

Let’s take a look at the tiers of QB performance from 2021 as an example, using groups of 12 based on fantasy points per game.

  • Tier 1 QB – 35.22 fppg
  • Tier 2 QB – 28.3 fppg
  • Tier 3 QB – 25.1 fppg
  • Tier 4 QB – 23.1 fppg

The top 12 quarterbacks averaged 35.22 fppg last year. Drafting a QB in this tier earned you 7 fppg against someone in your league starting a tier 2 QB!

It’s also worth noting that within tier 1, there was 13 fppg gap between Bailey Zappe (#1, 43.9) and Carson Strong (#12, 30.6)!

Landing an elite tier 1 QB was extremely important last season. But if you didn’t, the difference between a tier 2 and tier 3 QB was minimal – with the data suggesting to load up on RB/WR/TE during those rounds.
