When are the college football transfer portal windows?

The transfer portal opened on December 5th, 2022 and closed 45 days later on January 18, 2023. There is also a 15-day period to fill requests during the Spring from May 1-15.

What are the transfer portal rules?

In order to meet the criteria of the one-time transfer exception, the student-athlete must be academically eligible, have not transferred previously from another four-year institution and certify in writing, along with their new head coach, they did not have direct or indirect communication with any representative of the Division I school.

Are players forced to transfer during open windows?

No, the window is for college football players to enter their names into the portal, which allows them to transfer schools whenever they choose to.
