With Week 0 in the books, we’ve had our focus on an extended Week 1 for the 2019 college football season. We know everyone is excited for the college football season with the proof being that Florida/Miami was ESPN’s highest-rated game since 2016. College football will dominate our schedules with matchups on Thursday, Friday, a full slate on Saturday, Sunday night, and Monday night!
For college fantasy football owners, this is where it really starts – unless you setup your league in Fantrax to begin week 0.
If you’re struggling to get some of the Group of 5(hate that name) games, ESPN+ allows you to watch many through the app. You get that in addition to their paywalled content. Other exclusive shows include Peyton’s Places and the new show featuring Les Miles called Miles to Go.

Week 1 Key Matchups
Each week we’ll take a look at a few matchups we’re excited to watch. We’ll look at individual player matchups, depth chart struggles, or simply break down games that have a huge fantasy implications. This section will evolve throughout the season, so please let us know if you have any feedback.
UCLA at Cincinnati
The jump programs can take from year 1 to year 2 is huge and well-documented. You’ve got Nebraska as a dark horse for the playoff with a favorable schedule, Florida jumped to 10-wins in 2018, and multiple other schools mentioned before UCLA. Based on the content I’ve seen and read, nobody is excited about year 2 of Chip Kelly at UCLA.
Kelly also started a freshman most of the season last year. I’m excited to see what Dorian Thompson-Robinson can do against a Cincinnati team that is favored to beat the Bruins.
No national championship implications are found in this game, but the potential of a college fantasy star could put owners on notice with a good performance on a long road trip. Or we could see much of the same. We’ll be watching when this game kicks off 7PM EST.
Oklahoma State at Oregon State
Outside of this just simply being a good game, there’s a ton of interest from a fantasy perspective and let’s start with the obvious. Most fantasy drafts have already happened and many people who took Spencer Sanders, took him early. The Oklahoma State depth chart was recently release and it had the annoying -OR- designation between Dru Brown and Sanders. We’ll see who takes the first snaps for one of the annually excellent college fantasy offenses.
Chuba Hubbard is a speedster at RB for OKST and will be relied on as RB1 for the first time in his young career. With the new QB, I expect the offense to run through him. Speaking of great fantasy production, Oregon State has a standout in Jermar Jefferson who ran for 1,380 yards and 12 touchdowns as a freshman!
At WR, it will be interesting to see how the ball is spread around and who the new QB’s favorite targets become.
Boise State at Florida State
Boise State has a rich history of providing excellent college fantasy production. In 2019, there’s a ton of unknown talent that will take the field against Florida State Saturday night. The unknown begins at quarterback, head coach Bryan Harsin surprisingly announced freshman Hank Bachmeier over returning veterans on the roster. Should he have a solid showing against FSU, he could be a week 1 waiver gem – especially in keeper leagues.
Many believe Andrew Van Buren would earn the starting nod at RB, but that’s not the case. Junior Robert Mahone will start against the Noles.
Florida State has some incredible talent, especially in RB Cam Akers who can do it all. We’ll find out how the offensive line has hopefully improved in year two of Willie Taggert. If not, it could be a rough season for those of us with fantasy shares of the Noles offense.
