The Alabama backfield may actually be a bit thin in 2019 after Trey Sanders suffered what is reported to be a significant foot injury which pushes his freshman season back a year. He was expected to see significant playing time this year albeit behind Najee Harris and Brian Robinson on the Alabama depth chart.
Foot injuries have proven to be some of the most problematic injuries that can hinder the career of a football player, especially a running back.
While Sanders won’t see the field in 2019, his stock may actually improve in keeper or dynasty leagues – for now he’ll remain unchanged in our fantasy rankings. He now becomes a sleeper and a player you can get at a much better value. The odds of his prediction to win the Heisman as a freshman also improves.
Alabama will be breaking in a new QB in 2020 because Tua will leave early for the NFL draft. Jerry Jeudy will follow him to the NFL and maybe Harris will too with a great 2019.
As Saban as proven, he’ll mold the offense to whatever provides the best opportunity to win. It’s possible that Sanders could be the feature player in 2020.
Stock up on Najee Harris and Brian Robinson for 2019.
