2021 LSU Tigers Football Preview

LSU suffered an easily-predicted drop-off last year from a historic 2019 offense that lost a boatload of talent and key coaches. Coming into 2021, expect a more consistent offense that has seemingly found their quarterback and has potential stars at wide receiver and tight end.

Overall, how do you believe the offense will compare to the 2020 version?

I see it being better first off merely for the consistency – barring injury – of having one quarterback rather than three, which was the case last season. I believe that quarterback will be Max Johnson as he is as good or better than any other candidate as a passer and field general and is clearly the best runner. The offensive line will be as good or better as the entire unit returns. The receivers look to be about the same with Kayshon Boutte looking as good as Terrace Marshall Jr. of last season.

What do you expect from the QB position in 2021?

Consistent above average to good play by Max Johnson, who will get better as the season goes on as the Tigers will be a good running team.

How do you see the workload at RB being distributed?

Tyrion Davis-Price and John Emery Jr. will be the main tailbacks. Neither are great, but can be very good. I see Emery as eventually being the chief ball carrier and very good out of the backfield as a receiver.

How does the offensive line compare to the 2020 group?

Solid, veteran line that can get the job done. Not great, but good.

What do you think the distribution will be to the WR/TE's?

Kayshon Boutte will be the top receiver with tight end Arik Gilbert next, if he returns. After that, it’s anybody’s guess.

For our dynasty fantasy freaks, who are some young players that stand out as potential future breakout players?

Kayshon Boutte, John Emery Jr., Max Johnson.

BONUS: What in the world is happening with Arik Gilbert!?

He has some off field, maturation issues that he needs to get over and stop blaming others. There is still a chance he returns to LSU.
